Adriano Stavole
Pilot Captain- Aviation
Adriano Stavole, a seasoned pilot captain based in Cleveland, Ohio, leverages his substantial flight training and experience to advance airline operational objectives and fulfill corporate missions. With a robust background that includes over 5,000 hours of flight time, his journey began at NASA's Langley Research Center in Virginia. Here, he contributed to the research and development of the proposed Small Aircraft Transportation Systems (SATS) of the United States.
His role as a trained and certified flight instructor (CFI) at Ohio University was pivotal. He guided numerous students toward achieving their aspirations of becoming pilots, ensuring they surpassed the challenges of written, oral, and practical exams necessary for obtaining private, instrument, or commercial pilot licenses. He is proficient in instructing future aviators on multi-engine airplanes under CFR part 141, which encompasses cross-country flights.
Adriano's deep-seated desire to aid others steered him toward the air ambulance sector, which is crucial for saving the lives of critically ill or injured patients annually. As Pilot In Command (PIC), he played a significant role in critical care and organ procurement operations, skillfully navigating or piloting ambulatory aircraft with a First Officer through challenging weather and congested territories.
Holding titles such as commercial pilot, certified flight instructor, and licensed airline transport pilot, Adriano boasts qualifications that include an Instrument Rating (IR) and Multi-engine Rating. He is also certified to fly specific jets and high-performance aircraft like the CE560XL, CE560, CE525(S), LJ31, BE40, and DHC-8 (SIC).
Early Life and Education
Born to Italian immigrants in Cleveland's vibrant West Side, known as Little Italy, Adriano Stavole grew up surrounded by a community rich in Italian artisans, historic churches, authentic bakeries, and quaint boutiques. Immersed in this cultural enclave, he participated in annual outdoor street processions, reenacting historical or significant Catholic events. His early years were also marked by active involvement as an altar boy and participant in community sports like basketball, baseball, and football.
Adriano's prowess in team sports was evident as he led his little league teams to multiple championships and earned accolades such as first-team All-Star and co-MVP during middle school. His academic prowess led him to St. Edward High School, a preparatory institution where he garnered academic honors. Even as a young man, he juggled multiple jobs—from working as a funeral home custodian to serving in restaurants and laboring in construction—before enrolling in college.
His academic and extracurricular activities at Ohio University in Athens were just as diverse. Adriano pursued a dual degree—a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics and a BA in Business Aviation Management—while participating in the rugby club and ski club, even serving on the Board as Assistant Secretary.
Career and Accomplishments
Adriano commenced his professional path as a First Officer with CommutAir, flying scheduled commercial planes for Continental Airlines under CFR Part 121. His passion for aviation and helping others eventually led him to a distinguished career as an air ambulance pilot, starting with AirMed International before moving to Aitheras Aviation Group. He served as a pilot and flight coordinator for fifteen years, orchestrating missions that involved transporting life-saving organs to patients nationwide. His proficiency and dedication saw him rise to the position of Captain, where he managed patient documentation, onboard data systems, and flight logistics.
Adriano's tenure in air ambulance services culminated as Assistant Chief Pilot, responsible for implementing and overseeing corporate operating procedures, safety directives, and flight risk assessments. He continues to pilot jet aircraft in private charter operations.
Personal Life and Accolades
In 2019, Adriano Stavole was honored with the Pilot Award of Excellence, recognizing 15 years or 5,000 hours of safe flying, including encounters with at least three emergencies. Early in his career, as a Master Instructor, he ensured that a new generation of pilots prioritized safety over instinct.
Adriano lives with his two children in Broadview Heights, OH, maintaining close ties to his roots in Cleveland's west-side community. His hobbies include renovating a second home, a project that has enhanced his knowledge of residential construction. He is an active participant in his local church. He cherishes the time spent with his family, whether vacationing or engaging in hobbies like racing sailboats on Lake Erie, mountain biking, camping, snowboarding, and kayaking.
